Planning the logging and preparing transport by cable yarder or forwarder.
- On steep or boggy terrain, the number of trees to be retrieved is determined but individual marking is performed only after tracing the cable line route.
- On accessible terrain, the trees are marked and the transportation route is determined accordingly.
Some common methods:
- The forest ranger in charge or the logging worker marks the trees with luminescent paint.
- The forest ranger in charge marks the trees stamping his seal with the forest hammer.
- The amount and/or percentage of trees to be extracted is determined and work is divided accordingly. The logging firm carries out the work directly while third parties (forestry office or landowner) monitor progress.
